First Congressional District
Candidates Heading to
Three outstanding students from Florida's First Congressional District will soon be heading to West Point to join the Class of 2022, and one student received an appointment to the United States Military Academy Prep School.
Matthew Hawkins from Gulf Breeze High School, Josiah Spain of Pensacola, and Ally Woodard, a recruited athlete from Niceville High School, succeeded in obtaining much sought-after appointments to West Point and will soon begin their summer training popularly known as Beast Barracks. This group truly demonstrates that the academy can be a family affair since Matthew's parents, Jennifer and COL (Dr) Brad Hawkins, are both members of the Class of 1992 and his brother Michael just graduated with the Class of 2018. Josiah's father, COL Everett Spain, is also a member of the Class of 1992, as well as a life member of the West Point Society of Northwest Florida. Xavier Allen, a student from Navarre High School was awarded an appointment to the USMA Prep School and will have an opportunity to complete for a slot in the Class of 2023.
The members of the West Point Society of Northwest Florida extend sincere congratulations to each of our students and wish them great success as they embark on their many adventures leading to a commission as an officer in the United States Army.
